I want a monument we imagine and reimagine and reimagine—
A monument we grasp and heave and pull in a long arc
bursting through the cracks in the story you tell, America.– Ayanna Woods, in SHIFT
We take our ACDA program on the road!
A world premiere from Philadelphia composer Jennifer Higdon lies at the center of this concert where we will sing some of our favorite, most self-examining works of social relevance. Ayanna Wood’s defiant and uplifting SHIFT reimagines our national monuments, Edie Hill’s Spectral Spirits remembers extinct birds, Shara Nova’s Resolve invites us to embrace our discomfort and live humbly under the sun, while Caroline Shaw’s new work will still be in our ears from C@C 2022.
Jennifer Higdon’s new work is the 2022 Raymond W. Brock Memorial Commission from the American Choral Directors Association.
