Can heav’nly minds such resentment show, Or exercise their spite in human woe?
Doris Kareva’s words, “Our flags are wafting in hope and grief,” are the starting point for this choral recital that explores themes of nationalism and war, victory and loss, as we navigate our own journeys in joy and despair. Featuring a world premiere from 2018 Pulitzer Prize finalist Ted Hearne, the nation’s most prominent composer of works of social advocacy, this expanded concert experience winds through the Armory’s historic reception rooms. With a rare live performance of David Lang’s depart, for 3 cellos and women, and many New York premieres of works written for us, including selections from our signature book of commissions, Jeff Quartets.
